Waters Malaysia wanted to turn three of its laboratory instruments into custom acrylic keychains and pair them with branded short lanyard straps for a corporate event. As the available machine images were not clear enough for direct artwork preparation, AI-assisted visual development became an important part of turning the idea into a real product.
The Challenge 🎯
The main challenge was turning three real laboratory instruments into small acrylic keychains while keeping the important features of each machine recognisable. Each design contained control panels, screens, buttons and structural details that could easily become unclear when reduced to the size of an acrylic charm.
Waters Malaysia did not have suitable high-resolution product images for us to use directly. The available references were not clear enough for normal tracing and artwork preparation, especially when the finished physical products needed to closely resemble the actual machines.
The project also had a tight timeline because the completed sets were required for an event in Sabah. There was not enough time for several physical sampling rounds, so the artwork and production direction had to be confirmed quickly and carefully.
What We Did 📦
We first enhanced the client’s low-resolution images to recover as much usable visual information as possible. AI-assisted image generation was then used to rebuild the machines into clearer and more consistent visual references. This gave the client a better view of how the machines could be transformed into physical acrylic keychains.
The AI output was not sent directly into production. Every visual still had to be compared with the original references, corrected and simplified for the final acrylic size. Three coordinated custom-shaped acrylic charm designs were prepared, with each machine retaining its own recognisable features while sharing a consistent illustration style.
The keychains were paired with short black lanyard straps featuring an orange accent, Waters branding and black metal hardware. We also prepared a printed art card showing how the strap could be attached to a phone, card holder or bag. With no time for a full sampling cycle, a detailed mock-up, photos and video were sent to the client for confirmation before production proceeded.
The Result ✅
The three custom acrylic keychains were successfully produced based on the approved AI-assisted artwork. The finished acrylic charms, branded short lanyards and printed art cards were assembled into coordinated event sets and prepared for delivery to Sabah.
Waters Malaysia was very pleased with the completed products. Instead of receiving a standard keychain printed with a company logo, the client received customised event merchandise based on its actual laboratory equipment.
This project showed us where AI can bring real value to corporate gift production. The value was not simply generating an attractive image. It came from using AI to solve an artwork problem, obtaining the client’s approval and then turning the digital concept into a physical product that closely followed the approved design.
