GiftsDepot Expands In-House Corporate Gift Printing and Packaging in Malaysia

Some of the most challenging corporate gift projects do not begin with choosing a ready-made product. They begin with a specific campaign idea: a box made to a particular size, an insert that holds several items securely, full-colour artwork, or a branded finish that works with an unusual surface.

To support more of these requirements, GiftsDepot is expanding its in-house production capabilities for corporate gifts in Malaysia with four additional machines: a large-format UV printer, a digital cutting machine, a DTF transfer-printing system and a larger laser-cutting machine.

Our production team at our Rawang facility is currently installing, calibrating and testing the equipment before it is used for customer orders. This stage is important because the same printing or cutting method can produce different results when the product shape, coating, thickness or material changes.

The purpose of this expansion is not simply to add more machines. It is to give our team more practical ways to test ideas, solve production challenges and coordinate the product, printing and packaging within the same project.

🖨️ Why We Are Expanding Our In-House Production

Many businesses still need standard corporate gifts with a company logo, and those projects remain an important part of our work. At the same time, we are receiving more enquiries involving customised packaging, colourful artwork, special presentation sets and products that require a less conventional approach.

The new equipment will help our production team explore projects involving:

  • full-colour printing on suitable corporate gift surfaces
  • custom box prototypes and packaging structures
  • card, sponge and foam inserts developed around actual products
  • DTF transfers for compatible fabric-based gifts
  • larger acrylic shapes and packaging components
  • earlier testing before a project moves into mass production

Not every idea will be suitable for every machine. The advantage is that we can review more of the production process internally and make decisions based on the actual product and artwork rather than relying only on a general specification.

🌈 A Larger UV Printer for More Flexible Product Printing

UV printing is useful when a project requires detailed or full-colour artwork on a compatible hard surface. The ink is cured during printing, allowing suitable products to receive a clear and durable printed finish without using a traditional screen for every colour.

The larger working area on our new machine gives the production team more flexibility when arranging products. Depending on the item and available print area, several smaller pieces may be positioned within the same run instead of being handled one at a time.

The machine also supports selected cylindrical applications. This may allow us to work with suitable bottles, tumblers and other rounded products when their shape, coating and printable area are compatible with the setup.

UV printing is not automatically suitable for every product. A coated tumbler, an uncoated plastic item and an acrylic surface can react differently to the same ink. Before confirming production, our team checks the product shape, surface coating, artwork position and ink adhesion. A test print is often the most reliable way to determine whether the expected result can be achieved.

📦 Digital Cutting for Custom Boxes and Product Inserts

Custom packaging often needs more development than customers initially expect. The outer box must fit the products, while the internal structure has to keep every item in the correct position. A bottle, notebook, pen and electronic accessory may each require a different compartment or supporting insert.

Our digital cutting machine is designed to cut suitable sheet materials such as paper, card, corrugated board, sponge, foam and selected PU materials. For appropriate projects, it allows our team to test a packaging structure without first producing a traditional cutting die for every early concept.

This is particularly useful during prototyping. We may be able to prepare a one-off sample so the customer can review the box dimensions, opening method and product arrangement before committing to mass production.

If an insert is too tight, too loose or difficult to remove, the layout can be adjusted before the final structure is confirmed. For a customised corporate gift box set, this early testing can help avoid discovering a fitting problem after the packaging has already been produced in quantity.

Digital cutting does not remove the need for proper packaging design, and a different production method may still be more practical for a large-volume order. Its main value is that it gives our team and the customer a clearer way to test an idea at an earlier stage.

👕 In-House DTF Transfers for Fabric-Based Products

The new DTF transfer-printing system gives us more control over selected full-colour heat-transfer work. It can be used to prepare transfer graphics for suitable fabric-based products such as tote bags, pouches, selected apparel and other textile items.

Bringing this process in-house allows our team to check the artwork size, transfer position and colour output before moving into a full production run. It also makes it easier to test whether small text and fine details remain clear within the available branding area.

The correct printing method still depends on the product. Fabric type, texture, colour and heat tolerance can all affect the finished result.

DTF may suit detailed full-colour artwork, while silkscreen, embroidery or another method may be more appropriate for a different material, quantity or finish. Customers can review our guide to corporate gift printing methods to understand how the main processes differ.

✨ A Larger Laser Machine for Acrylic and Oversized Projects

GiftsDepot already operates two smaller laser machines for selected engraving and cutting work. The additional larger machine provides more working space for components that do not fit comfortably within our existing equipment.

It will mainly support suitable acrylic materials, customised shapes, display components, signage elements and packaging accessories. The larger working area may also allow several pieces to be arranged together, depending on their dimensions, material thickness and design complexity.

This gives our team more room to explore larger presentation pieces and projects that involve several matching components rather than one small engraved item.

As with any laser-cutting project, the material and finishing requirements must be reviewed first. Edge quality, heat response, thickness and the amount of detail in the artwork can all influence the method and settings used by the operator.

🛠️ Machines Support Skilled People — They Do Not Replace Them

Adding equipment does not make production automatic. Each machine still needs someone to prepare the artwork, choose the settings, position the product or material, run a test and inspect the finished result.

Even a small difference in coating, thickness, temperature or artwork size can change the outcome. A setting that works well on one product may not produce the same result on another item that appears almost identical.

During installation, our production team is working with the technicians to understand the operation, calibration and maintenance of each machine. The photographs in this article document part of that setup and learning process at our Rawang facility.

The objective is not simply to own more equipment. It is to build the practical knowledge required to use it responsibly and consistently on real customer projects.

When a proposed method is not suitable, our team will recommend a more practical alternative where possible. The purpose of having more processes in-house is to make that assessment earlier and with better information.
